Alvaro Morata is edging closer to Atletico Madrid at roughly the speed Gonzalo Higuain is edging closer to Chelsea.
Friday morning brought claims from Italy that the Juventus owned striker was set to fly across the channel and could sign so quickly that he’d be available for the Saturday match against Arsenal.
That may have helped Maurizio Sarri’s side avoid defeat but it wasn’t to be and, like with all of Higuain’s moves previously, this one was always set to drag out a little longer.
Morata to Atletico is deemed as imminent by the Spanish media, but Marca say the striker will train under Sarri on Monday before he’s able to complete his loan move back to La Liga.
They picture the player’s wife and his two children meeting Morata’s father at Madrid’s Barajas airport on Sunday evening.
That’s seen as a great big clue that the transfer is very close to being completed, and Morata wanted his family safely over in the city before the majority of the media scrum descend on the airport.
