Earlier in August, we relayed news from Brazil that Diego Rosa has signed a pre-contract agreement with the City Football Group (CFG) and it was also stated he could play for Manchester City in the next two years.
On Wednesday, the 18-year-old took to social media to confirm his ‘farewell’ from Grêmio.
“It’s time to say goodbye. Gratitude and huge affection for this club that welcomed me so much. I move on to new challenges, but my big thanks go to the institution, athletes and employees. Thank you Gremista fans, it was an honour,” he wrote, as reported by GZH.
According to the South American outlet, Rosa initially won’t play for the Citizens and will start his adventure in Europe with Lommel SK, another club owned by CFG.
Rosa turned 18 years of age in October and therefore, it makes it easier for him to arrive in Europe, after having cleared his medical. CFG are already paying €6m to secure his services, according to the Brazilian media.
The newspaper states the teenager will be at Lommel for the next 18 months, and then move to another club owned by CFG. The teenager will join Brazil’s U20 side later this month and arrive in Belgium at the start of January.
HBVL adds the price tag could further rise, if he represents Manchester City in the future. Should Rosa play 10 matches per season for the Citizens, then CFG will have to pay an additional ‘€4.5m to a maximum of €13.5m for three years’.
Therefore, Rosa’s price tag could potentially rise to €23.5m, if he ends up playing for the Premier League side.
