Ander Herrera has just over six months left on his contract at Manchester United and the midfielder was linked with a move back to Athletic Club Bilbao in the winter market.
The Basque edition of AS claims the Spaniard’s potential exit from Old Trafford in January is dependent on the new manager at the club as the Red Devils have parted ways with Jose Mourinho on Tuesday.
The 20-time English champions also confirmed they are in the process of appointing an interim manager until the end of this campaign before they bring in a permanent boss next summer.
The newspaper have provided an update on the 29-year-old’s situation with his current employer and it’s claimed the changes, present and future, at the Premier League outfit will delay the decision on the player’s future.
Herrera was not clear if Mourinho wanted him to stay or leave the club in January, but the Portuguese tactician’s dismissal means the former Bilbao man will have to wait for a decision on his future and AS mentions he may have to wait until next June.
It makes no sense for United to delay a decision on the midfielder’s future until next summer because he will be a free agent by then.
