Barcelona are considering the possibility of signing Liverpool’s Thiago Alcântara, according to multiple reports from Spain.
Gavi will spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury with Spain and this has encouraged the La Liga side to look for a new midfielder in January
Mundo Deportivo state the Catalan club have identified a few options and the list includes the Liverpool player.
The Spain international has a deal until 2024 and the report states ‘everything indicates’ he ‘will not continue’ with the Reds.
This may open the door for the Blaugrana to sign him in the winter market. Thiago knows the club well as he graduated from their academy and spent four years with their senior team, before leaving for Bayern Munich in 2013.
Thiago hasn’t made an appearance for Liverpool this season due to a hip injury, and his fitness would be a concern for Barca.
The player was close to returning to action, before a relapse of his injury. Mundo state the setback isn’t serious and he should only be out for ‘several more days’.
Over at Sport, they state the Liverpool midfielder ‘meets the requirements’ that Barcelona are looking for in the market.
Due to his contract situation, his signing would be well within the Spanish club’s economic parameters. The newspaper also adds Jürgen Klopp’s side ‘would not put any obstacles’ in the way.
These are the multiple factors that favour his arrival at Barca in January, but there’s obviously still the fitness concerns.
