Over the past couple of days, Mundo Deportivo and Sport have been reporting that Barcelona will bring in a new No 9 after Luis Suárez was ruled out of action until April.

On January 22nd, Sport reported Valencia’s Rodrigo is the ‘hottest’ target for the Catalan club.

Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims the La Liga winners want to sign the 28-year-old on loan with an option to make it permanent. However, Los Ches would prefer to sell him for a figure of around €60m.

Barcelona need to convince Valencia’s president and owner, Peter Lim, and to do that they have an ‘ally’ in super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is also Lim’s trusted advisor.

The report’s headline reads ‘Rodrigo waits for Barça, who speaks with Jorge Mendes’.

It’s claimed Mendes shares a good relationship with the La Liga winners’ board as he was involved in several previous transfers with them.

Therefore, the newspaper states Mendes can become an ‘important support’ for Barcelona, if they have to end up signing Rodrigo.

Whether Barca will be successful in signing Rodrigo remains to be seen.
