Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has been urged to follow the example set by Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne and leave the club this summer.
The Belgian striker is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, having joined the Eagles for a second time when it was made clear he was not a part of Frank Lampard’s plans in the summer.
He’s endured a difficult time at Selhurst Park, though, with just one goal and two assists in 16 Premier League games this season.
His loan spell has followed the same path as several others during his time with Chelsea, where he has similarly made little to no impact since his arrival from Marseille in July 2016.
Indeed, it has been very obvious for some time that the forward is not a part of the club’s plans, but he has failed to secure a permanent exit in several successive transfer windows.
That is something former Belgium striker Erwin Vandenbergh believes simply has to change this summer.
“In principle that (leaving) would not be a bad choice for Michy,” he told Voetbalkrant.
“Romelu Lukaku also dared to leave Chelsea for West Bromwich and later Everton. If he hadn’t, he might not have been where he is now.
“We also saw the same with Kevin De Bruyne.
“Batshuayi has been in the Premier League for several seasons now and it doesn’t work. So it wouldn’t be a problem to take a step back”.
