Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has been urged to make the move to Manchester United this summer and reunite with Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Barcelona as they look to sell several players from the squad to balance the books.
De Jong is reportedly at the top of the list of players they would be happy to get rid of, and Manchester United are reportedly pushing to make a deal happen.
They’re currently planning their overhaul under Ten Hag, and improving the midfield, which has already lost Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, is likely to be at the top of the list.
The former Ajax coach is keen to reunite with De Jong, a player he enjoyed a superb relationship with at the Dutch club before his move to the Camp Nou, as part of that rebuild.
At the minute, though, it’s been made clear that the player would prefer to stay in Catalonia, something he has made clear to both clubs as they negotiate a potential deal.
There is still plenty of time for his opinion to be changed, though, and according to journalist Johan Derksen, it’s an offer he should be considering.
“There’s something to be said about him being better if he goes to Manchester United,” he told Vandaag Inside.
“There he has a trainer who knows him, who knows where he’s strongest and where he has to play. Then he plays every week, and he comes into his own.
“The boy is too polite to be disruptive; that is not in him. He is a bit misused in Spain because he is actually dispensable over there.”
