Last summer, when Alfredo Morelos left Rangers, there were many rumours about where he would land next.
The striker ended up going to Santos, who are far from living their golden years, and had a huge task ahead of him to help the club.
Well, Morelos failed hard after his Rangers exit, and according to Globo Esporte, he could now have his contract rescinded by the Brazilian side.
Morelos should almost certainly have valued his good days at Rangers more highly and in another dimension he could currently be helping Philippe Clement’s side rather than being unwanted at Santos.
The full story is: in his first six months after Rangers, the striker barely managed to settle in and couldn’t help Santos avoid their first relegation in history.
Morelos then accepted a pay cut to stay for the 2024 season. But he’s been heavily criticised since then, and not even bonuses for each goal scored seemed to motivate him.
Globo Esporte says the former Rangers player has now been placed in the reserve squad and will be there while his agents look for a new destination.
In case there’s no agreement with a new club, Santos will then try to rescind his contract in a friendly way, even though that’s unlikely.
Not long ago, when trying to hype him up, Santos released a video of his goals for Rangers and HJK Helsinki, as there was nothing to show from him at his current club.
