Club Brugge striker Charles de Ketelaere has been told he’s making the ‘mistake of the year’ choosing AC Milan over Leeds United.

De Ketelaere has been heavily linked with a move away from the Belgian side this summer, with AC Milan and Leeds vying for his signature.

It is the Italian side who are at the front of the queue and talks have been underway with Brugge over a deal for weeks.

Leeds have also made a bid and are keen to add the striker as part of their rebuild this summer but it has been made clear the striker does not want the move to Elland Road.

He would prefer to move to Milan and is holding out for them to secure a deal, leaving Leeds in the background and hoping for those negotiations to falter.

In the meantime, De Ketelaere has been warned against the move to Leeds, with journalist Filip Joos warning that Milan makes far more sense earlier today.

That’s not an opinion shared by Jan Mulder, a former Dutch international and now a pundit, who says a move to Italy would be the biggest mistake of the year.

“Forgotten in the long-running affair is the FC from the drab industrial city of Leeds,” he told HUMO.

“Charles does not want to live and play football at a club that fought against relegation last season.

“But Leeds, under coach Bielsa, played some of the nicest football in the world in recent years.

“Under Red Bull Salzburg-American Jesse Marsch, who wanted De Ketelaere and immediately pledged the requested 40 million, they are doing about as well in terms of attack.

“(That’s) exactly the game that suits De Ketelaere. The Premier League, where the pace is murderous and the opposition fiercer, is better and much more attractive than the bygone glory of Serie A.

“Charles chooses the worshippers of sentiment. The mistake of the year.”
