Newcastle United were keen on signing Diego Carlos in the winter market.
The La Liga side’s sporting director, Monchi, admitted the Magpies made a “dizzying offer” for the Brazilian. Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui then stressed he was delighted to keep the player.
Carlos will at least finish the season with the Andalusian club, who face the possibility of losing him and his centre-back partner, Jules Koundé, in the summer.
That’s what La Razón are suggesting in a report that focuses on their efforts to sign Luiz Felipe.
The Spanish club and Inter Milan have joined Real Betis in chasing the player, who is out of contract at Lazio after this season.
Sevilla, for their part, have made a ‘firm proposal’ for four seasons, worth €2.5m per year, to Felipe.
Lopetegui’s side can offer better than what Lazio and Betis are willing to propose and if they manage to get his signing done, Felipe could end up replacing either Carlos or Koundé.
Regarding the Frenchman, the report says Sevilla fear they will not be able to hold on to him beyond this season.
Newcastle’s failed attempt in landing Carlos in January is mentioned again and La Razón add the South American could be ‘tempted by the English team again’ in the summer.
