The Portuguese press is always following their local players who have been playing abroad. And now there’s a double reason for them to cover French side Lille, since the brothers José and Rui Fonte have both moved to the Ligue 1 club this summer.
Newspaper Record has spoken to both of them this week, and one of the questions made to Rui was about his transfer from Fulham FC.
The player has claimed that it wasn’t an easy thing to leave the Cottagers just before the start of the season, but still, the move to Lille was something he was sure of.
“Changing clubs at that point is always a difficult choice, especially on the last day. The interest of Lille was interesting and was perfect for what I wanted. I could only say yes”, Rui Fonte told Record.
Rui Fonte joined Fulham on a €9m deal from Braga in 2017. In his only season for the club, he had three goals and five assists in 29 games.
The 29-year-old has joined Lille on a one-year loan deal, and his contract with the London side runs until 2020.
