Chelsea are reportedly fighting to keep Diego Costa at the club as they try to protect him from the interest of Chinese clubs and any remaining longing for Atletico Madrid.
According to Tutto Mercato Web today, Tianjin Quanjian have been showing their desire to sign the 28-year-old, but Roman Abramovich has already told them to stop the approaches.
Diego Costa and Chelsea would currently be negotiating a new contract, with a meeting scheduled for the next few days as both parties try to finally get to a deal.
Tutto Mercato Web claims that even though this is a way to block the player’s exit, it’s still possible that a sale could simply be delayed to June.
Diego Costa has 14 goals this season. He’s not far from equaling his best season at Chelsea, when he scored 20 in 2014/15.
The player has recently revealed he wanted to leave the club last summer, but ended up deciding to stay where he’s “much loved”.
It’s free season on Chinese rumours, so a chance for near enough anything to be claimed.
