It’s becoming difficult to look around the German sport media without tripping over a Holger Badstuber and Manchester City link.

Earlier on Wednesday we covered claims from German newspaper Bild that Badstuber is heading towards the Bayern Munich exit, in search of regular game time.

SportBild magazine carry on similar claims, and they say HSV and Stuttgart are also interested in signing the player.

Manchester City’s problem, if they genuinely wish to sign the central defender, is that Pep Guardiola, just like when he was manager at Bayern, wouldn’t be able to give Badstuber any guarantees of regularly being picked.

With Badstuber’s Bayern contract ending in the summer, a loan within Germany, where he could get games every week, would probably be a better choice.

SportBild say Bayern will assess the fitness situation of Jerome Boateng before allowing Badstuber to leave.
