In a strange turn of events, AFC Bournemouth have been thrown into the mix for the signing of Weston McKennie.
The news comes from none other than Gianluca Di Marzio, who wrote an article for Corriere della Sera ahead of the January transfer window.
In it, he looks at the potential sale of the USA international, which could give funds to Juventus to make some moves of their own in the next few weeks.
Normally, we would expect someone like Tottenham to be named, but Bournemouth were the ones put forward by the journalist as the interested party.
It’s said the player is being ‘courted’ by the Cherries in England, but Juventus’ request ‘will be for at least €40m’, which would give them the money to ‘make up for the losses’ as well as ‘look for an alternative to Juan Cuadrado’ for the right hand side of their team.
Now, that’s a lot of money, even for a Premier League side like Bournemouth, who currently sit 14th in the league after 16 games, three points off the relegation zone.
Considering the Cherries’ record signing is still Jefferson Lerma at around €30.5m, this means the club would need to smash their transfer record if they want to sign McKennie, which we can’t see them doing midway through a season where they could still end up back in the bottom three with a poor run of results.
