A week ago to the day, we covered a story in Corriere dello Sport regarding AFC Bournemouth’s interest in Bartlomiej Dragowski.
The Cherries currently have both Artur Boruc and Asmir Begovic on their books, but both are above 30 (the Pole is nearly 40), meaning new blood will be needed in the position sooner rather than later.
That article stated the young goalkeeper was ready to be Fiorentina’s first choice goalkeeper next season, having waited for the opportunity over the past three years, yet local newspaper Corriere Fiorentino see it differently.
The outlet on Tuesday report that while the Serie A club do want to keep the 21-year-old around so that he can be their main man between the sticks, the player has other ideas.
Having received a ‘substantial’ offer from Bournemouth, ‘the temptation to try another experience is strong’, suggesting he wouldn’t mind the move if it presented itself.
Dragowski’s current wages are ‘considerably inferior’ to what he could earn abroad i.e. at Bournemouth, leaving Fiorentina with one of three choices: keep him on the contract he’s on (which could make him unhappy), give in and hand him a renewal with an improved salary or sell him.
If they choose the latter, they wouldn’t do so for less than €15m, at which point the Italians would turn to either Sporting CP’s Emiliano Viviano or Juventus’ Mattia Perin.
Is that hope on the horizon for the Cherries and Eddie Howe in their search for a new goalkeeper? It might just be, but we’ll have to wait and see how this develops first.
