The chance of signing Arsenal defender David Luiz is ‘on the table’ for Benfica, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
The outlet writes that the defender still doesn’t know if he’s staying with the Gunners for next season.
His contract with the London side, which expires in a month, has an option to be extended by the club. But David Luiz is still to be told if that will be triggered or not.
In case the Brazilian becomes a free agent, it’s claimed Benfica would be happy to take him. And they’ve already told him that in contact made with his agent Giuliano Bertolucci at the start of this week.
The only difficulty for Benfica to land the 33-year-old would be his salary, so he must be aware he’d have to take a pay cut if agreeing his return to Lisbon.
David Luiz has recently told Benfica TV he’d like to return to the club in the coming years, so his comeback to Estádio da Luz wouldn’t be a surprise.
