Marcos Rojo’s return to Estudiantes is obviously a huge deal for the Argentine side. Signing a player directly from Manchester United isn’t something easy for a South American club, and that’s why his transfer was very much celebrated.
Following the announcement on Thursday, the club released videos with the likes of Javier Mascherano and Juan Sebastian Veron both welcoming the player to the club.
Rojo has spoken to the local press since his arrival to his home country, and talked about how happy he is to return to Estudiantes.
“Many things came together. I need to play, return to my level, the family insisted, my old woman told me to come back. I had many offers to go to other clubs, but what better than being at home. I hope to be on the pitch as soon as possible,” said Rojo (via El Intransigente).
“I want to go to practice and be with the boys as soon as possible. I’m very happy. It’s something I dreamed of, there was a chance and it could be done. I talked to Sebastian quite a lot but one day my head clicked and I decided to return. It all came together.”
Signed from Sporting in a €20m deal back in 2014, Marcos Rojo has made 122 appearances for Manchester United. His struggles with injuries have been a big problem during his time at Old Trafford. He says this is one of the reasons he’s trying a new league.
“I suffered a lot of injuries lately, I went to the bench a lot. And I needed to compete and what better than to do it at home. Argentine football grew a lot and this is going to be a beautiful challenge. I talked with almost everyone and they helped me at this time. I don’t know what to say to the fans, it’s incredible.”
Rojo’s loan deal with Estudiantes will run until the end of the season, and his future should become more clear in the next few months.
