Napoli striker Fernando Llorente was the player chosen to give a press conference ahead of the club’s game against Liverpool in the Champions League this week.
It’s a timely coincidence that his last European clash was against the Reds a few months ago. The Spaniard was brought on in the second half during Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat which gave the Anfield Road side the title.
Llorente was obviously asked about that match, and quizzed if there’s the feeling of revenge for the upcoming came.
“It was painful to lose the final, it’s certainly revenge, but above all it’s an opportunity to show that we can stay at their level. We have to play at a high level, he said (via Tutto Mercato Web).
There was also a question about Tottenham’s journey to the Champions League final being an achievement which can be done again.
“Of course, but it’s difficult. We go match by match. Besides Liverpool we have to face two other opponents. But it’s never easy, and if you lose a match, the group is complicated.”
Asked if he’s given Carlo Ancelotti any tips about how to face a Premier League side, Llorente said: “None, he knows it well, he studied it better than anyone. It will require a perfect game, great football, without mistakes because they are very strong when they steal the ball and go, they have many qualities and make you pay for every mistake.”
Llorente left Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent this summer, ending up with Napoli after links to various clubs. He’s made only one appearance for the Serie A side so far, coming on as a substitute, and still managed to make an assist. Now he hopes that his fame for being a Champions League man can help them against Liverpool.
