The Cengiz Under transfer rumour is an absolute mess and it’s been that way for over a year.
Sports media in Italy and England bounce rumours about the AS Roma player and it often gets a bit out of control.
Tottenham were said to be very interested when Under was still with Turkish club Basaksehir, and in June 2017 it was reported Spurs had offered €9m, with the asking price being €15m at the time.
Under eventually made the move to Italy, but the links to Tottenham have continued even if the figures have risen dramatically.
Several English clubs have been linked in the past few weeks, and on October 10th, Gazzetta dello Sport said reports from England were sure Arsenal and Tottenham were following the player.
However, at the time it was in Italy the claims were being pushed.
On October 26th, The Mirror suggested they’d seen reports from Turkey which claimed Mauricio Pochettino’s side were prepared to pay £52m, but given the claims were similar to Gazzetta’s, albeit twisted a little, it looked like the rumour being dragged out.
This then ended up at Calciomercato in Italy as being according to The Mirror, with the figure changed to €52m.
The same Italian website now claim Rai Sports (Italian TV) have reported Under ‘could soon be sold’ to Tottenham ‘for a figure close to €60m’. Calciomercato take this claim, which happened ‘in the past few hours’, as backing the transfer story up, but it’s probably simply carrying on the same twisted rumour.
