Boubacar Kamara’s short story at Aston Villa is completely detailed in a new piece from French outlet Foot Mercato.

The website recalls the whole process of his departure from Marseille, the insistence from Steven Gerrard to sign him, and finally, his redemption under Unai Emery.

It’s also recalled that Aston Villa managed to beat Atletico Madrid to get him, with the Villans spending a long time working on his arrival, and now they have ‘no regrets’ about the efforts made for that.

To speak more about Kamara, Foot Mercato brought quotes from RMC Sport journalist Salim Baungally, who’s an English football specialist. He gave more details about what the player has been showing in the Premier League.

“There were a lot of questions about him because he came after Morgan Sanson, who had remained in the minds of some as a failure in the end. Even if the profile is not exactly the same, we are obviously in the same playing area. So there were questions. But he silenced those questions pretty quickly. From the start, he showed his importance in the game,” Baungally told Foot Mercato.

Kamara arrived at Aston Villa for free after years playing for Marseille’s youth ranks and first team. Despite the knee injury which left him sidelined for about a month, he already managed to become an important piece in midfield, with 16 appearances for the club so far.

With the arrival of Unai Emery, things became even better for him in midfield. And that’s what Baungally details.

“Despite his knee injury which kept him away from the field for several matches, he was able to come back quite quickly as an indisputable starter and key player, even if Villa had difficulties and with Gerrard it was not easy… I talk about the game and not about their relationship, which was good.

“Then Emery came along and he continued to make him a leader in the middle. It was not easy when you know that there were executives like McGinn or Douglas Luiz. Kamara managed to overcome all that. In the end, he’s a great find and he does what it takes to be an essential man in this environment today.

Foot Mercato say Aston Villa will now have to put ‘barbed wire’ up to stop a richer Premier League club from taking him.
