PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo is set to start, and be captain, for the club in their clash with FC Volendam this evening, despite an offer from Southampton.
That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, who say the bid from Southampton is ‘currently insufficient’ for a deal to happen.
The newspaper reports that the forward had been ‘on the verge’ of securing a transfer to England, which has been mooted all summer.
However, Southampton, who are currently at the front of the queue for his signature, have currently only made an offer which the Dutch side consider ‘insufficient’.
PSV believe they can get around €35m for their star man, but that remains far too little for the Eredivisie side to accept and let their star man go.
Thus, he remains available to Ruud van Nistelrooy and is now set to start and captain his team for the game tonight, which could still be his last in their colours if the Saints up their bid and tempt their Dutch counterparts into a sale.
