Freeing himself from his Newcastle United contract late last week, Achraf Lazaar can now go wherever he wants.
The left-back was left stranded at St James’ Park for a number of years, with none of the managers wanting anything to do with him, which led to a series of mostly unsuccessful loans.
Decided to cut their losses after the January transfer window, Steve Bruce and co. allowed the Morocco international to leave on a free, which is to the benefit of Watford.
The Hornets have been linked for a couple of days now, and it appears they are prepared to take a gamble on him.
That’s according to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, who took to social media to explain Lazaar ‘is going to train with Watford for a few days and the next step will be a six month contract with the option for another season’.
It’s a gamble worth taking for the Championship side, who currently find themselves fifth in the table after 28 games, as they look to bounce back from relegation last season with a return to the top flight at the first attempt.
Confirmed. #Lazaar is going to train with #Watford for a few day and next step will be a 6 months contract with option for another season with #WFC #Hornets @tvdellosport
