Tottenham are closing in on a deal for defender Takehiro Tomiyasu after getting closer to Bologna’s €25m asking price.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say a deal could be completed before the start of the Olympics on 23rd July.
Tottenham have been pushing for a deal for the highly-rated defender for the last few weeks as new Director of Football Fabio Paratici looks to freshen up the squad.
They’ve been working to bring down Bologna’s asking price during negotiations, with the Italian side setting their initial target at €25m.
That’s something Spurs don’t want to pay, and Gazzetta suggest they won’t have to, with an agreement now close.
They explain that Bologna are aware it is ‘very complicated’ to keep Tomiyasu this summer as Tottenham are keen to get a deal done.
They have offered ‘almost €20m plus bonuses’, bringing them closer to Bologna’s €25m asking price and overtaking Atalanta, who were the first to move for the defender.
Only ‘a few details’ remain to be settled between the two clubs, but the feeling is that the operation could be completed before the Olympics start on the 23rd of this month.
Tomiyasu is set to be part of Japan’s team for the tournament and would like to have things settled before then.
That appears to be close to happening, with Corriere Dello Sport also adding that he ‘seems close’ to joining Tottenham.
