Earlier today we covered a report from Germany which stated Borussia Monchengladbach have no intention and no ability to pay Leeds United €10m+ for Maximilian Wöber and are chasing a free agent instead.
It seems clear that whatever Wöber would have done this season, Gladbach simply weren’t going to pay a reasonable price for him when it came to it.
There’s a similar situation over in Spain with Marc Roca. Real Betis took him on loan from Leeds United for the season and had a buying clause worth €12m.
That seemed like a good deal for them and in the first half of the season it was expected, and even stated a few times, that Betis would obviously like to pay less but would somehow stump up the €12m if they had to.
As the summer window and payment time has got closer, that stance has unsurprisingly changed and what Betis really want is for Leeds United to miss out on promotion so they can get another loan deal.
The player himself is very happy in Seville and it was recently reported he’s bought a home there for his family.
Rocas has been speaking to ABC Sevilla and at the end of the chat he was asked what happens next, the Leeds United owned midfielder replied: “I have always said that I am happy at Betis. How the fans have treated me is incredible. Also from my teammates, from the staff… I think I’m having a very good season. That’s what I focus on. In the end it is up to my representative, the sports management, Betis, Leeds and God.”
