Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares had temporary spells at Marseille and Nottingham Forest before going out on loan to Lazio in the summer window.
The left-back has enjoyed a good start to his life in Italy, managing a very impressive five assists from five league games this season.
Tavares is currently leading the charts for most assists in Serie A, ahead of Napoli’s Romelu Lukaku [four assists] with his club teammate David Neres on three.
The Arsenal owned player has received praise from the Italian media and from the Serie A side directly.
O Jogo highlights all this and points out that the Italian club have given the 24-year-old a nickname, “expresso”. The outlet adds the Portuguese ‘didn’t need long to triumph’ at Lazio.
The newspaper has also interviewed the Gunners man, who expressed his delight over enjoying an impressive start to his spell at Lazio.
“I feel more and more at home at Lazio. Fortunately, things are going well for me personally and collectively. I think we have risen to the challenge and can only think about improving. We still have a long way to go but, for now, the balance is very positive,” he said.
“I feel good watching my teammates. It’s good to have this understanding with them in this short space of time. We can only improve. I’m very happy to be here.”
As a part of the loan agreement with Arsenal, Lazio have an obligation to buy Tavares for €5m if certain set conditions are met. That figure looks like a bargain right now.
Earlier today, TuttoMercatoWeb reported he came close to joining Atalanta and Inter Milan in recent years. The deal didn’t take shape because of Arsenal’s very high demands at the time.
