It was back in July that the Brazilian media started reporting Gustavo Scarpa’s agreement to join Nottingham Forest.
The midfielder was entering the final months of his contract with Palmeiras, and despite all the titles the Verdão have been winning in recent years, he chose to leave them for free and sign for a club who had just been promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.
With Nottingham Forest now on the bottom of the table and Palmeiras just conquering a new Brazilian League title, there are obviously many questions about the choice he’s just made, and it turns out that not even money is the reason for his move.
Interviewed by Podporco, the player now revealed he could’ve had a bigger salary in Brazil, but his dream of playing in Europe is what attracted him to join the Tricky Trees.
“My renewal at Palmeiras would be much bigger than what I’m going to make in England. But it’s experience, time doesn’t come back,” Gustavo Scarpa told Podporco.
Earlier today, we already covered other bits of the interview which show Scarpa being optimistic about the move to Nottingham Forest.
He claims not to be worried about Forest’s position, as it ‘can’t get any worse’, and is hoping they can recover in the second part of the season.
