Much to our surprise, transfer deadline day in Italy on Thursday was relatively quiet.
With big deals such as Gonzalo Higuain’s or Krzysztof Piatek’s already done and dusted, it was mostly inter-league business being conducted, and nothing too major happened.
That’s why we were able to cover stories like Milan’s ‘intense contacts’ with Chelsea regarding Tiemoué Bakayoko’s future in Italy with a view to a summer transfer.
The report was fairly straightforward, as the Serie A side are now convinced that keeping the France international is a good idea, which they can do for the pre-agreed €35m.
However, as any business would, they got in touch with Chelsea to see if they could somehow negotiate a small discount, you know, maybe knock €5m or so off?
Either way, should they pay the Blues an agreed sum for Bakayoko, convincing the player won’t be too difficult as he too wants to stay in Italy.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, he said: “Why not? Staying in Milan is my dream, but I have a contract with Chelsea”.
Asked what he would do to make it happen, he replied he didn’t know, but that all he wants right now is to finish the season in fourth place before thinking about his future in too much detail.
To us, that sounds like he isn’t coming back to Stamford Bridge any time soon, regardless of whether he continues at Milan or not.
