Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jeremy Sarmiento couldn’t really do a lot for Ecuador in their latest friendlies. Still recovering from an injury, he had few minutes in each game, and was in pain during the first half against Cape Verde, being replaced at half-time.
As the 19-year-old held a press conference with the local media to speak of the three matches played, he brought a few details about his injury, pointing out it was already agreed that he wouldn’t stay on the pitch for long.
“I come from a big hamstring injury on the left side,” said Sarmiento in a press conference (via El Universo).
“With my club in England we decided to go little by little, now in these three friendlies I felt very good and it’s an issue for which I have to go easy because otherwise it happens to me again, I suffer from it. Going step by step and everything is fine, I imagine that I will be fine for all the games that come.”
Speaking of his holidays, Sarmiento revealed that he will not have as much time off as his teammates. That’s because Brighton, who are concerned about his physical situation, asked him to return to England sooner than usual, as they want to start working on his rehabilitation, so he can be ready and fully fit for the start of the season.
“After this free time that I’m going to have, I’m going to meet again with the team on June 28th. Supposedly I would have had three or four more weeks, but due to the injury, the team wants to have more time and work with me a lot more.”
Thankfully, he doesn’t seem too displeased and is clearly happy to put in a bit of extra work ahead of the new season.
