On deadline day, the Italian media reported that Everton made an attempt to sign Olivier Giroud from AC Milan.
It was claimed by website Calciomercato.it that the Toffees proposed the player a salary worth €3.5m until the end of the season, plus a €2m bonus in case they stay in the Premier League. And if that happened, he’d then have a salary worth €8.5m next season.
But it was also said that Giroud didn’t even speak to Milan about Everton’s approach. And according to Sport Mediaset, he’s actually about to accept a contract renewal from the Rossoneri.
There, he’s set to make less than half what he’d have earned at Everton if they avoid relegation, as Milan are paying him €3.5m per year.
Sport Mediaset also quotes agent Vincenzo Morabito, who spoke to TVPLay and made it clear that Giroud was never looking for a way out of Milan in January.
“I can only say that he never wanted to think about leaving Milan. There is a good relationship with the club and the fans, but I don’t comment on what they say in England, and Milan itself has never thought of parting ways with the player who has shown he knows how to be decisive.”
