Besiktas midfielder Gary Medel reportedly regrets not having joined West Ham United in the winter transfer window.

The claims are made by Turkish outlet Milliyet, who say the player is now keen on leaving his club at the end of the season.

Medel’s contract with Besiktas expires in 2020, and although there’s an option for both player and club to agree a one-year extension, he’s not interested in activating it.

When Besiktas rejected the Hammers’ offer, he was promised the armband and retirement at the club. But it’s claimed he’s now changed his mind, with his agent telling the club about his wish to leave.

Milliyet adds that Medel wants to continue his career in England, although it’s not mentioned if West Ham would come with a new offer for him.

To achieve that, the player would also have to reject an offer from China, as local clubs are coming heavy to get him from Besiktas.
