On Sunday the 8th of August, claims came from Italy of Leicester City interest in two Inter Milan players.

The Foxes were said to be interested in Marcelo Borozovic and Stefan de Vrij, with Inter Live saying the club would be willing to pay €48m for the double deal.

Now an update from Calcio Mercato backs up that Leicester City tried to sign the defender, but had their effort turned down by the Nerazzurri.

The outlet claims Inter Milan ‘received a call’ from the English side, but do not want to lose De Vrij and ‘returned the offer to the sender’.

The report doesn’t make it clear how much Leicester City were offering for the 29-year-old. They just point out that he’s already protected with a contract until 2023 and the Italian side want to extend that deal until 2025.

Calcio Mercato says that after failing to land De Vrij, the Foxes turned their attention to Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard. That move was made official by both clubs on Froday afternoon.
