Several reports today have been claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are working on the signing of Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

The rumour quickly spread through the English and the Spanish media, where the likes of Super Deporte reverberate the claims of a €45m Spurs offer for the player.

Among the many rumours, it was even said that the player turned down the chance of joining Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, despite Villarreal having accepted the bid.

Now it turns out that amid all this noise, Sport Witness has been informed that these claims are wide of the mark.

In touch with sources close to the player, Sport Witness reporter Naveen Ullal was told, in very strong terms, that the claims are ‘fake’. It’s been assured that ‘there’s nothing’ between Tottenham and Villarreal for Torres’ move right now.

The defender is currently protected by a release clause of €65m. As written by Super Deporte, those figures had an increase of €10m following his appearances for the Spanish national team, as he played six games in their Euros campaign.
