Manchester City are in contact with Anderlecht regarding defender Sergio Gomez but are yet to make an official offer.
That’s according to Het Laatste Niuews, who say the Spaniard is very much on the radar of those in charge at the Etihad.
Yesterday we covered reports from Belgium that Manchester City had made a move for Gomez as they look to add a new left-back to their squad this summer.
Initially, it was reported they had just made contact but it was later stated a bid had been made to try and get a transfer underway.
HLN roll things back today, stating that Manchester City are ‘looking’ for a left-back and in that search, they have found Gomez.
They’re showing an interest in the defender but a ‘formal offer’ has not yet been made. He is, though, ‘on the radar of the Citizens’ and that ‘means a lot’.
The newspaper explains that while a transfer sounds surprising it really isn’t as Gomez has a ‘direct line’ to Pep Guardiola as his brother, Pere, represents the defender.
In fact, back in April, he was in the stands at the King Baudouin Stadium during the cup final alongside Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s technical director.
They were there to watch Gomez as far as HLN are concerned and Anderlecht are open to a deal as the money brought in would ‘relaunch’ their summer.
At the moment there is no official offer from Manchester City but the interest is there nonetheless and this one could pick up quickly.
