This week, there’s been a rumour saying Tottenham Hotspur could be after the Celta Vigo winger Brais Mendez.
It all started in Italy, with Calcio Mercato publishing a short note saying Spurs were ‘following’ the player ‘with attention’.
Things got bigger in Spain, though, when local websites started giving a bigger picture of the situation. It’s been said Celta Vigo are having a hard time renewing Mendez’s contract, and that could be a sign of his exit.
It’s been said that Mendez is protected by a release clause of €25m, and that’s what Tottenham would be considering paying.
Well, that escalated pretty quickly, and Brais Mendez himself has made sure to slow things down. He’s spoken to the local media about his situation at Celta, and claimed that he knows nothing about the rumours.
“I’m apart from everything, I focus on training and working as well as possible for myself and the team. Whatever has to be in the future, it will be”, he said (via AS).
“This is my house, I feel very well here, we all know each other and many of us have been friends for many years and that makes it even better. I want to stay here.”
Speaking of his renewal with the La Liga side, he’s said: “It doesn’t worry me, I’m calm because I know it’s being worked on. It’s not something I have to be worried about, if I renew it now or in two months. I’d rather focus on mine and the rest others will do.”
