For weeks the Seville media have been quite calm over Jules Kounde’s potential move to Chelsea.
The stance has been that either the Blues will pay a figure that Sevilla are happy with, or the player will continue in La Liga ahead of a potential transfer next summer.
There was confidence that the Frenchman wouldn’t agitate for a transfer, knowing he’s at a good club and being patient over a move away.
Dramatically, that’s all changed. Friday saw Kounde being left out of Sevilla’s squad for the weekend, and it was initially thought this was to avoid injury and also because the player’s mental state wouldn’t be right to play.
Saturday’s edition of ABC Sevilla says Kounde ‘asked not to travel’ to Elche. This came after Chelsea made an offer worth €50m, which wasn’t accepted. A year ago, Manchester City had offered €55m, which was also rejected, and Sevilla feel they can get more for the 22-year-old, whether that’s this month or in the future.
ABC points out similar happened with Dani Alves in 2007, and Sevilla kept him for a further season before selling to Barcelona.
