Calciomercato report Manolo Gabbiadini has opened up a possible return to Bologna, in a story which feels like it’s reported around once a week.

The Southampton striker has been continually linked with a return to Serie A, and specifically Bologna, for quite some time.

His agent has often spoken to the Italian media and insisted the footballer is committed to proving himself at Southampton and in English football, but still the stories continue.

Calciomercato say a big hurdle in the way of a transfer is Gabbiadini’s salary. He’d simply have to take a pay cut to make the move happen.

Bologna’s current best paid player is Mattia Destro and he earns €1.8m a season, a figure which is likely after tax. By comparison it’s stated the Southampton player earns ‘well over €2m’.

The 26 year old is continuing to struggle for prominence at the Saints, with just 179 minutes of Premier League football this season and no goals to show for it.
