Liverpool summer signing Adrian was a hero for the Reds during their UEFA Super Cup success over Chelsea in Istanbul on Wednesday.

After having allowed Simon Mignolet join Club Brugge, the Merseyside club signed the Spaniard on a free transfer on August 5th, and when Alisson Becker suffered an injury in the season opener against Norwich City, he came on to replace the Brazilian, making his debut in the process.

West Ham United released Adrian after the end of the last season and the latter was without a club for most part of the summer, with Seville based side UD Pilas allowing the keeper to train with them last month while he was sorting out his future.

Mundo Deportivo claims Real Betis, Real Valladolid and even clubs in Germany were interested in Adrian. However, he had ‘no doubt’ about joining the Champions League winners when Klopp called him.

Pilas sporting director Jose Mari Moreno gave an interview to Mundo and stressed how Adrian’s life has ‘changed in just over a week’.

Moreno also explained how Adrian thanked him and Pilas, once his move to Liverpool was secured.

“He [Adrian] came loaded with gift bags. There were jerseys from his time at West Ham, a handwritten letter and a cheque that has helped us buy 20 balls and some other materials for this season,” he said.

“The most gratifying thing is to have met a wonderful person,” Moreno added.
