Glasgow Rangers have announced today the departure of Carlos Peña. Without many details, the Scottish Premiership side have claimed the player’s contract has been ‘terminated’, meaning his immediate farewell from the Ibrox.
Signed on a €3m deal from Chivas in 2017, Peña only made 14 appearances for Rangers, scoring five goals. In 2018, he’s had loan spells at Cruz Azul and Necaxa.
Not wanted by Steven Gerrard, he had to find a new location.
Now as the Mexican press covers his departure, outlet Medio Tiempo says the midfielder is ready to sign for a new club in Europe.
The report says he’s about to join Polish side GKS Tychy, where he’s set to have his medical in the next few days. The Polish transfer window doesn’t close until February 28th, meaning the timing of when his contract was cancelled by Rangers would make no difference.
In January, Peña gave an interesting interview to the Mexican media about his struggles with alcoholism, and had already claimed that Poland would be a possible destination for him. Now we hope he’s fully recovered so he can get back in shape in European football.
