Moussa Dembele had to wait until deadline day of the summer transfer window to complete his transfer to Lyon from Celtic.
Last September, the forward revealed that “messages and calls” from the Ligue 1 side’s players convinced him to leave the Bhoys and make a switch to the Groupama Stadium.
Prior to joining the French side, the 22-year-old was also attracting interest from Marseille, but Lyon were successful in managing to beat their league rivals for the attacker’s signature.
Dembele has given an interview to Telefoot in which he’s explained he would have continued with Brendan Rodgers’ side, if his move to Lyon hadn’t been successful.
“It’s a club with a great history, there was a project that interested me,” the former Fulham man explained.
“And I felt the determination of the leaders [of Lyon] to bring me to the club and that was decisive in my choice to come to Lyon. [For me] it was Lyon or I [would have] stayed at Celtic.”
During the course of the interview, Dembele was also asked about the rumoured interest from Marseille. He said, “Marseille … Marseille, it’s complicated, it’s complicated, that’s it, the club is not too stable I’ll say.
“Well, I do not really want to talk about Marseille, I’m Lyonnais and I’m happy to be at Lyon, that’s most important.”
The Frenchman has made 18 appearances in the league so far this season and has scored seven goals and registered three assists in the process.
Dembele got his name on the score sheet as Lyon handed PSG their first league defeat of the season on Sunday.
