It seems that every week of the year, the Spanish press finds a reason to link Gareth Bale to Manchester United.
This time, it’s the Real Madrid related website El Bernabeu who comes up with claims that the Welshman could be joining the Red Devils this summer.
The rumour comes up as a development to all these stories saying Anthony Martial should be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season.
El Bernabeu claims that this transfer makes Gareth Bale eager to move to Manchester United, especially because he would have the chance to get the #11 shirt, which once belonged to his national team manager Ryan Giggs.
Bale reportedly feels like his time at Real Madrid is over, and his representative Jonathan Barnett is said to have already started contacts in England, especially with Manchester United.
It’s stated the transfer must be approved by José Mourinho. The boss wants Bale to be the only attacking signing this summer, but there’s a hard feeling for the demands the player made when negotiating with the club last year. The winger would cost the Red Devils over €100m.
Maybe that’s it. The only thing that was stopping Bale to join Manchester United was the occupied 11 shirt. Obviously.
The wilder outreaches of the Spanish rumour media, and their English cousins, won’t let this one go. Ever. Maybe even after Bale has retired.
