Stefan Ortega left Arminia Bielefeld for Manchester City last summer and has been given an opportunity to return to Germany a year later.

Bayern Munich are in the market for a new goalkeeper and their focus is currently on the 30-year-old, who was Ederson’s deputy last season.

Sky Deutschland first reported the Bavarian club’s interest and even stated they made contact with the Manchester City player.

Manuel Neuer hasn’t featured this year and isn’t set to return soon. This has seen the Bundesliga side look for a first-choice stopper, where Ortega has been identified as the new target.

He made 14 appearances in all competitions and won the treble with the Citizens in his first season at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola started Ortega in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal but favoured Ederson for the league tie.

A move to Bayern would see Ortega become the new No.1 for the ‘time being’, according to RAN Sport journalist Martin Volkmar.

He took to Twitter to state the German ‘would like to’ join Bayern since he cannot become first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester City. Volkmar adds Pep Guardiola’s side ‘block’ his transfer and will continue to do so until they find a new No.2.
