It had been a while since the Portuguese press started saying Sporting had the intention to offload Marvin Zeegelaar and Ezequiel Schelotto this transfer window.
Both players haven’t been used by manager Jorge Jesus lately, and in order to get rid of their salaries, the Lisbon side were working to find some pretenders for the duo.
Zeegelaar’s transfer to Watford was made yesterday, and it seems the Premier League also helped Sporting with Schelotto, as the player is on his way to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Portuguese newspaper Record has all the details of the deal, saying the right-back travelled to England to have his Brighton medical on Wednesday and should be officially announced today.
Brighton will be paying Sporting €2.5m upfront and another €500k in bonuses, resulting in a €3m transfer. In case Schelotto is sold by the Premier League club, the Lions will still get 12.5% of a fee.
