Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a tough decision to make when deciding his options for the goalkeeping position next season.
David de Gea’s errors have cost the Red Devils a few points in the Premier League, and he was at fault in his side’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.
Dean Henderson is coming from an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United, and is knocking on the door to become the new No. 1 at Old Trafford.
While there’s still no clarity about the goalkeeping situation at United for next season, there was a claim in England at the weekend that the club could be lining up a shock move for Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel, to replace De Gea.
These claims have inevitably made it to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. They’ve managed to get the opinion of Mikkel Bischoff, who was at Manchester City at the same time as his compatriot, on the rumour linking the Foxes keeper to United.
“The most successful goalkeepers at the club in recent years have been well into their thirties, [refers to Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar]. He can easily play three or four good years there.”
Bischoff then gave his own insight into Schmeichel’s connection with the Premier League giants.
“Schmeichel is a huge United fan. He always has been and always will be, it will be the biggest dream come true if he were to succeed [in joining United],” he adds.
The former Manchester City player explained that whilst De Gea has a higher top level than Schmeichel, he’s been too inconsistent since the last World Cup.
Bischoff ended the chat by saying: “If Kasper gets the opportunity to play just ten games for United, then he jumps. It’s simply so big for him. He is such a big fan that he will do anything to get to that club.”
