Palmeiras midfielder Gustavo Scarpa has admitted he will be fulfilling a childhood dream when he joins Nottingham Forest in January.
The highly rated 28-year-old is set to link up with Steve Cooper’s side at the turn of the year, having been linked with a move since the summer.
His current contract with the Brazilian club expires in December, at which point he will be a free agent and can move wherever he likes.
He’s chosen Nottingham Forest, with him recently revealing that he had initially received an offer to join Olympiacos, who are also owned by Evangelos Marinakis.
It will be a big change for the midfielder, who has only ever played in his homeland, but he insists he is looking forward to the opportunity to live out a childhood dream.
“In truth, I’ve had that decision to go to the Premier League since I was 11,” he told Placar.
“I confess that I thought that as my contract was coming to an end, that I wouldn’t be able to renew it, I imagined I would be able to go to Europe because I had an Italian passport, but I didn’t imagine the Premier League.
“I imagined a smaller club in Spain, in Italy, something like that, but then when it came to a Premier League club… at 28 years of age? I know I’m not old, but what player left Brazil at 28 and went there?
“I was happy, because I go through a film in my head, it’s a child’s dream. I said: that’s what I want. I know how difficult the team’s situation is, I watch the best moments.
“I try not to watch too much so I don’t end up forgetting about here and focusing on there. I follow it from afar, but not too much. I know it’s going to be an adventure; it’s going to be difficult, but I want to breathe new air. I’m really excited.”
Gustavo Scarpa also explained he’ll have no issues with language when he moves to Nottingham Forest, given he already speak English well.
