On May 5th, we carried a report from AS, who explained that Manchester City are the ‘most dangerous’ club in the race to sign Vélez Sarsfield’s Thiago Almada, ahead of Atlético Madrid.
Two days later, the 19-year-old admitted he has ‘always liked’ the Premier League winners as the latter are in hunt to acquire his services.
Manchester United and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the young forward.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Velez Sarsfield chief Pablo Cavallero claimed Barcelona have asked about the player.
These claims have been picked up by Saturday’s edition of Sport. The Catalan newspaper explains the La Liga winners have monitored the teenager, but they are not considering an approach for him.
According to the report, Barca have ‘ruled out’ signing the Argentina U20 international, while the player is of ‘interest’ to Pep Guardiola’s side and the Gunners.
Sport state the club are of the belief Velez Sarsfield are using Barcelona to ‘raise’ Almada’s price tag, so that they can get more funds by selling him to Manchester City, Arsenal or any other suitor.
