Liverpool may have been handed an advantage in the race for Denis Zakaria, with the midfielder preferring a move to England.

That’s according to BILD, who covered the player on Monday as the race for his signature heats up ahead of next summer.

Zakaria is out of contract at Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the season, and there are several clubs in Europe keen on his signature.

Liverpool are one of them, with it reported yesterday that they have ‘taken an interest’ in the midfielder and ‘lined up’ to sign him, alongside Manchester City.

BILD now look at the player today and explain that while Borussia Dortmund are keen on the midfielder, they could end up missing out on him.

He’s at the top of their list of targets, but Zakaria is ‘currently leaning’ towards a move out of Germany, ‘preferably’ to the Premier League in England. Dortmund, at this moment in time, are only the second option for him.

He’s yet to make a decision about his future and isn’t going to do so anytime soon, with him set to make a ‘final decision’ in ‘early 2022’.

That’s when he’ll be free to talk to clubs about a free transfer come the summer, and so he’s leaving it ‘pending’ until then.

It leaves the door open for Dortmund to try and get their man, and they will have to ‘work hard’ to do so, particularly as they need a replacement for Axel Witsel.

At the minute, though, they are second in the race, with Zakaria’s preference for a move to England seemingly giving the likes of Liverpool the upper hand.
