Philippe Coutinho has given his yes to a Barcelona transfer, reiterate Catalan newspaper Sport on Tuesday. It was Sport who went big with claims of a potential transfer last week, when they pointed out the finances would be a problem for Barcelona.

At the time it was speculated Liverpool would want around €80m for the player, and he wouldn’t be looking to take a pay cut to help the move be more palatable for Barcelona.

On Tuesday Sport state Liverpool will be demanding €90m, and above, for a transfer to happen this summer. Given Barcelona were worried over an €80m fee, they’re obviously more tentative about a potential deal now.

But, Coutinho is said to be keen and his representatives believe the Brazilian pushing the club could be ‘fundamental’ to any transfer happening.

Should Coutinho take an ‘active part’ in negotiations and press Liverpool to agree to a move… ‘it is very likely that the signing can take place’.

Still, Barcelona don’t seem interested enough to break the bank or enter a media and pressure war for Coutinho. The player himself may be super keen, and his agents feel the same, but Liverpool hold Screen Shot 2017-05-09 at 06.53.38the power here, especially with the player being on a contract until June 2022.

Barcelona either need to find the money, or Coutinho needs to show the Catalan club he’s worth €80m, €90m, or whatever Liverpool are asking.

Sport round it off by saying Barcelona ‘will have to see if Liverpool lower the price to an amount they consider acceptable for investment.’
