Brighton and Hove Albion are currently ahead of Leeds United in the race for Jose Cifuentes, having made the first bid for him.
That’s according to La 10, who say the player is ‘being fought over’ by the Premier League duo.
They report that Cifuentes could arrive in England before the end of the window, with Brighton and Leeds both keen on his signature.
Leeds interest appears to come from manager Jesse Marsch, who knows the MLS well and has already brought both Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson to the club this summer.
That is why he is looking at Cifuentes, who has been a star man for Los Angeles FC, who are a ‘leading team’ in the Western Conference.
However, at this moment in time Brighton are ‘in the lead’ because they have made the first offer for the player, worth €6m.
Whether Los Angeles FC will accept that remains to be seen but it means the Seagulls have an advantage over Leeds at this moment in time.
Those in charge at Elland Road are aware of this bid and La 10’s belief is that they will be able to put in ‘a bigger purse’ to get Cifuentes ahead of their competition.
