AS now states the Premier League winners have already made a ‘formal offer’ for the midfielder, which is likely to be in terms of wages.
He has a release clause of €70m in his contract at Atletio and it’s claimed the 22-year-old is ‘increasingly far from continuing’ with Los Rojiblancos beyond this season.
For the Spaniard to make a switch to the Etihad, only his signature is missing and despite having proposals from other clubs, he is ‘very close to accepting’ Manchester City’s approach.
There is no need for City to negotiate with Atletico and for them to complete Rodri’s transfer, they just need to pay the €70m clause.
AS claims the FA Cup finalists have tabled a long-term deal (five/six years) that will see the player’s wages increase considerably from what he is earning with the La Liga side.
The report further explains the manager is ‘key’ in this operation. Guardiola has already held talks with Rodri to explain his plans and also what he expects from the Atletico midfielder. 
This factor has ‘seduced’ Rodri the most because the former Villarreal man believes he would suit Guardiola’s system better than that of Diego Simeone.
