Just weeks after the completion of last season, it was reported Leeds United expressed an interest in Matheus Cunha and a potential deal could be completed this summer for €40m.
Two days ago, local newspaper BZ reported Hertha Berlin want to sign Lyon’s Maxwel Cornet and a deal for him can only proceed if the Bundesliga side manage to get rid of Cunha.
It was also explained the Whites are keen on landing the Brazilian, but will have to battle it out with Zenit, AS Moncao, Inter Milan and Napoli.
The 22-year-old is part of the Brazil squad that will take on Spain in the final at the Tokyo Olympic Games later today.
According to Berliner Kurier, the forward has been ‘flirting’ with clubs for several months, ‘sometimes with Leeds United’, and at times with clubs from Italy, France and Spain.
Hertha chief Fredi Bobic ‘can only smile’ if there’s an offer of €25m on the table. The Berlin based club can see the player ‘become even more expensive’ if he manages to win the gold medal with Brazil.
There’s no mention over what would be his new valuation, if the win takes place on Saturday.
Cunha is expected to go on a vacation in the coming days and despite having a contract until 2025, he’s not expected to play for Hertha Berlin again.
